Power Points from Peers Partnership

The Jackson Chamber of Commerce’s Chamber News publication is partnering with 21 students from Martha Petry’s English 132 class at Jackson Community College to interview and write articles on member businesses.

The Power Points from Peers section of the newsletter is a series of short articles sharing best business practices, recommendations and lessons learned from various chamber member businesses.  The readers of the Chamber News are community business leaders and owners.  Our goal as a publication is to be a relevant source of information for our audience.  Therefore the intent of the Power Points articles is to provide insights, inspiration and information that our readers can use.

When students approach you as a business, their assignment is to interview you and then write a 250 word article.  Some questions that they may ask you are: “What ONE business building activity has helped you the most?”; "If you knew then what you know now, what ONE thing would you have done differently?”; "What advice would you give to someone dealing with (a problem you recently dealt with)?".  You can help make this article about you relevant by giving some deeper insight of what made ‘it’ work for you.

As a Chamber, part of our Strategic Plan is to give our businesses resources to help them do business better.  With this partnership we achieve that through informative articles and by developing our future workforce. For many of these students this is their first introduction to the ‘neighborhood’ of businesses. In this neighborhood we have a different customs, vocabulary and forms of communication.  The students learn a little about business, writing in a concise way and about how to present themselves.

Thank you for your consideration and cooperation in this learning experience and for contributing to the relevancy of the Chamber News.
